Empower Update – Rev 2011122501

Empower Beta Update v4.1 Deluxe rev 2011122501 Instructions

Happy holidays and welcome to the December update for the Empower HUD!

Major changes in this version are:
– New spells and improvements to old favourites along with some bug fixes
– New Ammo types and presets
– New MoCap animations, sounds, CastingFX and presets
– Ability to trigger HUD sounds from within gestures via the “/5 play” command

Full details follow after the Update instructions, which you should read before applying the update.

I suggest making a copy of your existing HUD before updating.  Locate your HUD in inventory, right click and detach, then right click and Copy, right click and Paste.  Rename one of the copies to “Empower HUD v4.0 Backup” and wear the other copy.

The updater will appear in your Objects folder.  Please locate it, rez it on the ground or wear it, make sure you are wearing your Empower HUD and then left click the Updater to activate it.

If you are applying multiple updaters to bring your HUD up to a current version, please wait for each update to fully complete before commencing the next update.

Your HUD will become transparent during the update.  It is important that you do not detach it until you receive the message:
“Empowerment complete.  Empower v4.1 HUD is now active.”

If you have multiple copies of your HUD, you will need to apply the update to each.  I recommend keeping only one copy of your HUD (and a backup) to simplify updates.

Once the update is complete, please wait 10 seconds (long enough for all the messages produced during the update to disappear from your screen), detach your HUD, wait 30 seconds more, rename it in inventory from “…v4.0″ to “…v4.1″, then reattach it.  The waits are to ensure SL “saves” the changes.

During the update, DO NOT walk away from the updater, DO NOT teleport, DO NOT log off and DO NOT cross sim boundaries until the update is complete or YOU MAY DESTROY YOUR HUD.
Ensure you are on land where your objects will not get returned to you.  If the updater returns during the update YOU MAY DESTROY YOUR HUD
Ensure you are on land where you can run scripts.  If on group land, activate the correct group BEFORE wearing the HUD and rezzing the updater, or the updater won’t run
Should your update fail for any reason, including the above, simply detach and reattach your HUD.  The HUD will recover from the failed update, but you should, as quickly as possible, remedy the problem which caused the update to fail, then re-apply the update, as the HUD may do strange things with half an update applied.

What’s in this update?
1. New and changed spells
New spells
Push->Drag  –   Click and hold on the specified target to drag them around with your mouse
Assist->Candle  –   Summon a candle to light the way for the specified target
Assist->AntiLight   –   Disable nearby face/body lights
Attack->Plasma  –   Send a ball of plasma to push the specified target (does damage and may kill when combat is enabled)
Nature->Twilight    –   Call down a field or darkness accompanied by configurable sounds
Utility->SendDialog –   Send a dialog box notification to the specified target.  Parameters of dialog can be configured using “/5 dialog”

Changes to spells
Travel->Follow  – Now puts avatar in phantom mode to avoid bumping the person you are following
Shield->Shield  –   Now becomes fully transparent when “Show” is unticked on Shield tab, so that camera doesn’t focus on shield and people can “click through”.  Casting message changed from “touch/sit…” to “click/sit…”
Assist->Demon   –   More demonic in appearance and uses custom CastingFX
Attack->Tornado –   Removed from Attack tab, as it is already present on the Nature tab.  Added custom CastingFX using MoCap animation
Attack->Megiddo –   Theme enabled Megiddo and adjusted it to target fireballs at surrounding avatars within 30m, when present.  Improved lavaball dispell

Set custom CastingFX using MoCap animations for the following spells:

2. New ammunition and presets for use in Mouselook weaponry
– Plasma (Gives extra push on impact, as for the Blast ammunition)
– PlasmaDk (Gives extra push on impact, as for the Blast ammunition)
– Skull
– SkullFlame

3. HUD Changes
– Added new animations and sounds for use in your CastingFX/TPFX/DispellFX:
New Animations: BHCircle, BHDown, BHPart, BHRaise2, BHWhirl, Hex, RHCast2
New Sounds: Occult5s, Occult10s
– Added new CastingFX Preset – Demonic – using Occult sounds
– HUD will now release controls when Weapons, Movelock, Dash and Flight are all unticked, to allow “click to touch” when in mouselook
– Added new {CtrlsOff} and {CtrlsOn} entries to the Settings menu (Options->Settings or the Tools icon next to the STOP button) to turn Weaponry, Movelock, Dash and Flight Assist off/on – see above
– Added Play command to support playing Empower sounds from gestures (e.g.  “/5 play bells”)

4. Bug Fixes and internals (for advanced users and those who customise their HUD)
– Fixed a bug which prevents HUD owners from casting spells when using display names, if their display name is longer than 24 bytes (usually because of DBCS chars)
– Options->Weaponry->Animation checkbox now functions correctly.  Disables animations during firing of mouselook weaponry
– Dispell (STOP button) will now stop all effects when used in Stealth mode (fixes problem with casting Greet/Farewell in Stealth)
– Fixes to Themes settings (some spells weren’t picking the new theme up when first cast)
– Scanner messages now pay more attention to msglevel settings (particularly “scanners partially disabled”)
– Switched to new update manager technology using http_in to communicate with update manager to support future expansion to other virtual worlds
