Your Empower HUD is a complex device and SecondLife(TM) is a complex environment. If you encounter what appears to be a problem, please consult the following list of problems and solutions before contacting support.
Question: I’d like to sell your HUD in my store. Do you have affiliate vendors?
Answer: Affiliate vendors are available for no charge from most places that sell Empower Magick including our Main Store (click here) at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Smallhaven/95/186/51
Problem: My Empower HUD seems to have buttons missing when I wear it
Solution: Whilst wearing the HUD, right click it and select “Edit” then close the edit box. This is a known issue with SecondLife(TM) and alpha textures
Problem: My spells won’t work!
Solution: Check whether you are in an area which allows Scripts to be run and Objects to be rezzed (created). Most of the spells will not work unless both these things are enabled. If they are not, your Empower device should have warned you that “Some or all of your spells will not work here” when you teleported in. If you did not teleport in, but walked into a no-script or no-build area, the Empower device will not have been able to detect this and warn you.
Alternatively, you may be on land where the land owner has forbidden you to cast Empower spells. If so, your attempts to cast will be accompanied by a “fizzing” sound instead of your usual spellcasting sound.
In either case, contact the land owner to have the problem rectified.
Problem: My radar is stuck and I can’t cast spells where I usually can!
Solution: Under very rare circumstances in busy sims, the spell targetter can crash, causing the problem listed above. I believe that this has been fixed, so if you experience this problem please report it. The following workarounds will get your HUD going again:
- Rez and activate the most recent updater you have received
- If all this fails, right click the HUD, select Edit, then go to the Tools menu on the top menu bar and select “Reset Scripts in Selection” to reset all scripts in the HUD.
Problem: I can’t see all of my HUD! Some buttons seem to be off the screen!
Solution: Your screen size may not accommodate the HUD in its default position. Right click it and select “Edit” then use the arrows to position your HUD in a better location on your screen.
If you cannot see the HUD at all, find it in your inventory, right click it, then select Attach To HUD> and choose a different attachment point. This should cause the HUD to reset to the default position. You can then edit its location as described above.
If you cannot see the movement arrows when editing the HUD, use the scroll button on your mouse to shrink the HUD area of the screen down, then move your HUD.
Problem: My HUD/staff/particle relay and some other part of my avatar/my favourite attachment conflict, as they both use the same attachment point and I can’t wear both at the same time
Solution: Instead of selecting “Wear” to attach your Empower Device, right click and select either Attach To> (for particle relay/staff/ring) or Attach to HUD> (for the HUD itself) and choose a different attachment point. Your device may require editing in its new location to position it appropriately, as described above
Problem: One of my other attachments responds whenever I cast spells!
Solution: Adjust either your spellcasting channel or the internal channel used by the HUD as described here or here
Problem: HELP! I can’t get rid of the spells I’ve cast!
Solution: Click the prominent DISPELL button to cancel all spells you have cast in the current sim.
For text commands, simply type “dispell” (without the double quotes “) in text chat
Problem: I’ve added a landmark or used an updater to add spells to my HUD and now the buttons are greyed out
Solution: The HUD defaults to the Visual spell tab on update. If you do not have the visual spell pack, you will need to select the appropriate tab on the HUD (Visual, Attack, Push etc) for the spells you have loaded.
If this is not the problem, you can try one of the following:
- Click on the Options tab, click on the Advanced button and select “Empower”
- Click on the Options tab, click on the Advanced button and select “Reset HUD”
- Rez and activate the most recent updater you have received
- If all this fails, right click the HUD, select Edit, then go to the Tools menu on the top menu bar and select “Reset Scripts in Selection” to reset all scripts in the HUD.
- If this doesn’t fix the problem, then Contact Us
Problem: I used JumpCam, MoveLock, Tail or Dodge and now I’m stuck in mid air!
Solution: You may have jumped into or through an area where scripts are disabled. First, try hitting the big DISPELL button. If that doesn’t work, detach the HUD and fly/walk/teleport to an area where scripts are enabled, then reattach the HUD.
Problem: The watch spell does not seem to be working!
Solution: Hit escape three times to ensure your camera is not focused elsewhere. Ensure your draw distance is set far enough out to be able to see the target (Edit->Preferences->Graphics, click the Custom button, then adjust the Draw Distance slider based on the distance reported for the avatar in the HUD’s radar display). Note that it is not possible to see avatars on parcels where “See and chat with residents on this parcel” is unticked, however the HUD will still focus on their position and track their movement.
Problem: I’m not getting sounds/animations/messages when I cast spells!
Solution: Ensure the Stealth checkbox is not ticked. Click on the Options tab then the Spellcasting button and ensure the Messages/Sound/Animation checkboxes ARE ticked as described here
Problem: I’m not getting any particles when I cast spells!
Solution: Ensure you are wearing either the Particle Relay, Ring, Staff or other Empower compatible device. Ensure the “Stealth” checkbox on the left page is not clicked. Click the Options tab, then the Spellcasting button and ensure that the appropriate Particles checkboxes are selected as described here
Problem: The spells in the Land tab don’t work!
Solution: These spells will only work on land that you own. If you wish to use them elsewhere, you will need to give a copy of the Land Relay that you received with your spell pack to the land owner and have them rez it. If the land is group owned, the relay will also need to be deeded to the group that owns the land. Full details are available here.
Problem: My custom settings get lost when I logout/login
Solution: After you configure your HUD to your liking, try detaching it, waiting 10 seconds, then wearing it again. This will force SL to “save” the changes you’ve made, rather than losing them. If that doesn’t work, try waiting longer between detaching and wearing. If that still doesn’t resolve it, contact us.
Problem: I keep getting updaters sent to me whenever I login/attach the HUD
Solution: If the name of the updater is different each time, you’re just behind in versions and are receiving normal updates to bring you up to the current level. You should apply these. If the name of the updater is the same each time, you need to rez it and touch it (left click) whilst wearing your HUD. If the updater still gets sent to you when you login, apply the udpate again, wait 10 seconds after it has completed, then detach your HUD, wait 30 seconds and reattach it.
Problem: How do I turn off the particles when I’m flying or dashing?
Solution: To turn off flight particles, click on the Options tab and uncheck the Particles checkbox next to Flight Assist.
To turn off dash particles, click on the Options tab and uncheck the Particles checkbox next to Dash.
Problem: The weaponry built into the HUD is interfering with my other mouselook based weapons!
Solution: Uncheck the Weapons checkbox on the left page. The Empower weaponry is now disabled.
Problem: There is someone I want to monitor with the Scry spell, but it cannot find their details
Solution: You will need to determine their avatar key (beyond the scope of this FAQ), go to http://w-hat.com/name2key and enter their key there. Alternatively, stand within 96m of them so they appear on your radar (or use the Scanners to pick them up if in the same sim as you but further away) and then cast the Scry spell. It will report their key – use that to add their key to http://w-hat.com/name2key
Problem: I have trouble teleporting to other locations when I’m wearing the HUD. It’s slow and sometimes times out
Solution: This can happen when you are wearing too many scripted items. The HUD itself does not cause this issue, but can “push you over the edge”. Try removing hair, shoes and other prim attachments to see if the problem still occurs. Some hair, shoes, etc. with colour change or other scripts in them can consumer 10 times the resources of the HUD and may well be causing you to experience lag.
Problem: My HUD is broken!
Solution: Hopefully you kept a copy of the original package which you purchased. If so, just unpack a new copy of the HUD.
If you didn’t keep a copy and bought your HUD through one of our vendors, you can teleport to a store and use a redelivery terminal to have a new HUD package delivered to you. Failing that, please submit a support request requesting delivery of a new HUD. See the Contact Us link for store locations with redelivery terminals and instructions on requesting support.
Problem: Where are all these updates I keep hearing about? I’m not receiving them!
Solution: You may have hit the “Mute” button by mistake when an update was delivered to you. This will prevent you receiving future updates. In general, we release about one update per month. If you haven’t been getting them, you may wish to check that Blackdog Ashbourne or the Updater are not on your mute list. Click the View menu on the top bar of your client and select “Mute List” to see all the objects and avatars on your list. Remove any which look like Blackdog Ashbourne or “EmpowerUpdateManager”
Problem: I use a separate hugger and it doesn’t work when I’m wearing the Empower HUD
Solution: Turn off MoveLock (in the left page of the HUD) otherwise it may fight as the other hugger tries to move you.
Problem: I moved my HUD off the screen and now I can’t see it and can’t get it back
Solution: Find your HUD in inventory, note which HUD attachment point it is using, right click and detach, then attach it to a different HUD attachment point. That will cause it to reset its location to be on your screen. You can then detach again, reattach to the point you had it on previously and edit it again to move it to the location you want, hopefully without moving it off your screen this time.
